We are looking for experienced Captain to operate tours in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Tours run mid-May to mid-October (maintenance before and after season). We operate vessels ranging from 27′ – 68′ and operate non-stop scenic tours, water taxi service, and shuttle service for camping and hiking.>
You must have a USCG 100-ton license, TWIC card, CPR certification, and pass a drug screening.
We are looking for candidates that can safely operate vessels while being able to narrate a scenic tour through the islands. You will manage deckhands while on the water, perform safety drills, report necessary maintenance, and ensure passenger safety. If you love being around people and helping to educate, entertain, and inform, then this is for you!

We are looking to hire a halibut captain for the summer of 2020 the Job pays $300.00 per day plus tips and tips average 200 to 300 per day. The captain would have to obtain at least a 50 ton Coast Guard license and be able to run a 6 passenger boat along with having experience of being in big waters. The boat and Job is in Homer Alaska and the job will run from mid May until mid Sept. We would like for the captains to have experience fishing for halibut and rock fish. Position Summary:
Responsible for providing outstanding and safe on-water experiences by creating a balanced presentation of nature, culture, and history education and sport-specific technique.
Embody and motivate every team member to fulfill Outside’s mission “To enrich lives by connecting people to exceptional places, products, and experiences.â€
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide superior experiences to every Outside Brands guest, connecting our guests to the history, culture, and nature of the local area.
- Demonstrate proficiency with boat handling skills and be willing to work with Outside staff in bringing skills up to standard.
- Stay up-to-date with local history, nature, and wildlife topics.
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner, conforming to and/or exceeding regulations. This includes maintaining the company-issued Guide Box on each vessel.
Maintain current credentials:
- USGC License
- TWIC Card
- Drug Consortium Membership
- MROP (Master Captains only)
- SCDNR Fishing License (if applicable)
- First Aid/CPR
- Maintain and clean all equipment, including tackle, to the highest standard per Outside Brands policy. This includes accurately maintaining refueling records in the appropriate fuel log. Communicate any exceptions to the Special Services Manager.
- Complete all trip paperwork per company policy.
- For fishing captains, includes completion of fishing log and submission to SCDNR.
- Be prepared for a trip at any time when scheduled as GOC, keeping clean uniform and safety equipment on hand.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early to prepare for trips.
- Communicate any operational incidents to the Director of Reservations.
- Operate from any location as scheduled.
- Follow direction of any location-specific manager.
- Attend periodic Captain, guide, and all-staff meetings.
- Support an environment of learning and trust by acting as a positive role model.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
